TUSKEGEE, Ala. (AP) - Temporary repairs to a damaged bridge on Interstate 85 is now complete and state transportation officials say crews reopened one lane to northbound traffic.
DOT Special Assistant Tony Harris, in a statement Friday, said emergency repairs continue on a second lane and it could be reopened as early as this afternoon.
The interstate bridge was closed to traffic after a tractor-trailer hauling frozen chickens crashed into the structure and heavily damaged the bridge support and side rails. The accident occurred early Thursday morning. The driver suffered minor injuries.
Motorists were rerouted onto secondary roads at Exit 38. That
detour was approximately 15 miles.
The southbound lanes of I-85 were not affected.
