DOTHAN-- Alabama State Troopers are teaming up with other law enforcement officials in our area to keep the public safe this Independence Day.
"Forces will be out. State Troopers will be out, the County will be out, and the City will be out in our area."
"We wanna increase our presence out on the road because when people have a tendency to see troopers they have a tendency that reminds them, hey we need to slow down and obey the rules of the road. And yes we will be doing drivers licence check points all throughout the weekend."
They're calling it the Fourth of July Safety Blitz.
"Our safety blitz is actually starting tonight at 12:01 and it's gonna run through midnight, July 8th. The travel holiday period is gonna start tonight at 6:01 and it's gonna run until tomorrow night at midnight."
And during this Safety Blitz they'll be looking for...
"We're gonna be looking for violations of all travel laws. Common things such as speeders distracted driving and of course the DUI driver and the intoxicated
driver."
"Awareness issues from texting, the move over law, other people not abiding by the rules as far as possibly indulging in alcoholic beverages while their driving as well as too."
"Following speed limits, wearing safety belts, things of that nature."
Officials also warn that you should allow extra time to get to your destination.
"Give yourself extra time to arrive places. As we know the traffic will be heavy especially areas such as 231 South. So prepare your routes so you can avoid those congested areas."
So remember to click it or ticket and drive sober or get pulled over.
