BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama residents pay less for electricity and more for natural gas than utility customers nationwide.
That's according to the federal Energy Information Administration.
The agency reported that residential natural gas prices in Alabama averaged 23 dollars and 27 cents per one thousand cubic feet. Electricity prices in Alabama averaged 90 dollars per one thousand kilowatt hours. Both averages were for September.
That same month the national average natural gas price per 1,000 cubic feet was 15 dollars and 76 cents and for one thousand kilowatt hours of electricity it was 109 dollars and 40 cents.
State officials say there are a number of factors that go into prices and it's difficult to get an accurate comparison from state to state.
