Just as the Dothan Bomb Squad was rapping up a scene they were assisting in Ozark Thursday, another call about a potential bomb came in from dispatch in Dothan.
Dothan Bomb Squad Commander Lt. Keith Gray says the man told police he was bringing a diffused pipe bomb to the parking lot behind Dothan High School on Selma Street.
The bomb was treated as it were live, but Lt. Gray did not confirm whether the device was or not. It was removed from the front seat of the car by a robot the department received from the Department of Homeland Security.
Lt. Gray says he just returned from bomb school in Huntsville where they hammered home to "start remote, and stay remote" in reference to using the robot.
"We use it to retrieve the actual device which was there and put it in a containment vessel made specifically for transport for potentially hazardous devices," says Lt. Gray.
Gray said the man who told police he was bringing the bomb to the parking lot "knew what he was talking about," so every precaution was taken to ensure no other devices were in the car.
Gray says investigators arriving to the scene will handle any criminal investigation.
