Holiday Season Brings Critical Blood Need

By  |

There is a call for all wiregrass residents to roll up their sleeves and give blood. One local agency only has a quarter of its normal supply.

There’s always a great need for blood during the holiday season. The biggest reason is people are busy shopping, decorating and traveling and forget, but with increased traffic on the roads, that means more accidents.

“With all the preparations this holiday please consider how important it is to give,” said Susan Holmes of Red Cross

Blood banks in the wiregrass can use any blood type.

Right now they can especially use o positive because it's the first to run out.

You can give blood here at the Red Cross on Montezuma Avenue on Thursdays from 1pm until 6pm; also you can donate at LifeSouth on Ross Clark Circle everyday from Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LifeSouth provides blood to local hospitals and they are critically low. They only have 56 units and they need 200 units per week to keep hospitals going.

“Would you want your family waiting in hospitals for blood or at home with you?” said Rebecca Hall of LifeSouth Blood Bank.

So as you head out of the house to get the perfect gift. Remember the free gift the gift of life.
