CenturyTel technicians are working with a software manufacturer to restore telephone service to scattered areas of Southeast Alabama.
An overnight software upgrade loaded improperly causing this morning's outage pockets from Dothan, West to Andalusia.
Technicians are working with the manufacturer to get all lines restored as soon as possible.
This was a routine upgrade for a project the company has been working on for several months to improve our consistency in service to customers.
CenturyTel is upgrading a new fiber ring across South Alabama that will provide redundant service to the area, preventing future outages.
The new line would pick up telephone traffic in the event of a cut or malfunction with primary cables.
