Officials, Witness Say Student Kills Self in School With Rifle

ERDENHEIM, Pa. (AP) - A witness says an eleventh-grader fired shots into the ceiling of their high school this morning, then used the rifle to commit suicide.

Another student says he was walking to class at the school in suburban Philadelphia when someone shouted to "get down." That's when the gunfire began in a hallway after the first period.

School system officials say no one else was hurt, and that police from an adjacent station came running. All of the other students were evacuated to a nearby middle school.

Earlier this year, a tenth grader at the same school was arrested for allegedly bringing in a loaded gun. Authorities say he showed it to another student, and was eventually found by police nearby.
