The Houston County commission has approved having Southeast Alabama Medical Center take over management of Lakeview Hospital in Eufaula.
Attenus, the current owner of Lakeview Hospital, has agreed to sell it to the city of Eufaula.
The city will retain ownership but will lease management of the hospital to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
The operations will be overseen by the Southeast Alabama Regional Healthcare authority, which answers to the county commission.
Houston Co. Health Care Authority Attorney Alan Livingston said, “To do this it's necessary to form a new health care authority rather than having to operate that hospital as a division of the Houston County Health care Authority for liability purposes and for accounting purposes, we feel it would be a cleaner transaction.”
Ownership of Lakeview Hospital has changed hands more than 10 times in 20 years.
