The two-year-old Florida girl left alone for more than two weeks is going home with her father Wednesday.
Police say the child was abandoned in a Jacksonville apartment by her mother, who was in jail on assault and theft charges. The toddler survived by eating ketchup, mustard and raw pasta.
The child's father, who is separated from her mother, says he found the girl covered with filth and dried ketchup and jelly.
She was released from a hospital after being treated for dehydration and malnutrition. The girl's father told the Florida Times-Union she ate four pieces of chicken, a cheeseburger, mashed potatoes and Cheerios while in the hospital. The girl also drank two pints of milk.
The father has been granted temporary custody. He says he can't stop crying when he thinks about his daughter's ordeal. As he puts it, he can't "even imagine how hungry she must have been."
