At Least Seven Die in Weekend Traffic Accidents

Alabama state troopers say at least seven people died in weekend traffic accidents across the state.

The death toll includes two men who were killed early Sunday in a head-on crash in Choctaw County. Troopers said 28-year-old Travar Johnson of Frankville and a passenger, 25-year-old Jimmy Curtis Franks, also of Frankville, died at the scene. Troopers said the driver of the other car, 34-year-old Kevin Hayes of Shubuta, Mississippi, was injured and was sent to a Meridian, Mississippi, hospital for treatment. His condition was not available.

The accident happened at approximately 2:15 a-m, about two miles west of Hurricane Road.

Troopers said a 49-year-old Madison County man was killed early Sunday when the car he was driving struck a bridge abutment and plunged into the Flint River.

The victim, who was ejected onto the riverbank, was identified as William Arthur League the Third. The crash happened about 2 a-m at the Flint River Bridge on Winchester Road.

Other traffic fatalities were reported in Lauderdale and Baldwin counties.
