Jury Finds Smiths Station Man Guilty in Sex Abuse Case

A jury has found a Smiths Station man accused of sexually abusing his former stepdaughter guilty of a lesser charge of second-degree sexual abuse.

32-year-old Terry Eugene Wright Junior was accused of first-degree sexual abuse, stemming from incidents in 2001 involving a girl who was his 14-year-old stepdaughter. A jury returned the guilty verdict on the lesser charge yesterday.

Wright could face up to a year in prison and a fine, and he must register as a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life. Sentencing was set for January Fifth.

The victim, who is now 20, testified of several touching incidents and said she was in love with Wright.

Wright had given a statement to investigators admitting one incident of what he deemed accidental contact.
