Bookkeeper Accused of Embezzling $400 Grand Over Five Years

BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a part-time bookkeeper for
the Bessemer Public Library is out of jail after posting a $50,000 bond following his arrest on embezzlement charges.

Jefferson County sheriff's deputies arrested 37-year-old Jeffrey Ronilo on Wednesday. He's accused of stealing at least $400,000 from the library since 2001.

A prosecutor said Ronilo, a Birmingham resident, came under scrutiny last month when a bank worker alerted the library about an altered check that had been presented for deposit.

Now investigators are trying to determine what happened to the
money and how it was spent.
