Water Rates

City Commissioners voted on a new plan that will reduce some rates.

It should be pointed out that an increase is still effective; it just won't be as much as before.

After a public forum earlier this month, city officials went back to the drawing board to address some of the major issues, specifically residential use rates.

Up to 3,000 gallons is going to cost you $1.05 per 1,000 gallons; 10,000 to 60,000 gallons will cost you $1.45 per $1,000 gallons. And the rate for any amount more than 60,000 gallons will be $1.95 per 1,000 gallons.

Another point of concern was how the increase affected senior citizens.

The money generated from the rate increase is earmarked for Dothan Utilities and will go toward improving the city's water system.
