Gulf Rescue

coast guard rescue

Five vacationers are safe today after there 21-foot fishing boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico about 15 miles west of Cape San Blas in the Florida Panhandle.

Pilots of a Coast Guard jet that responded to the scene Sunday morning spotted the five men sitting on their boat's overturned hull.

The plane dropped a survival raft and the survivors climbed inside. The pilots say another recreational boat soon arrived and picked them up after hearing the radio distress signal.

They later were transferred to a Coast Guard boat that brought them ashore at Port St. Joe. No one was injured.
