Authorities Warn of Holiday Scams in Wiregrass

By  |

During the holidays opportunists are out trying to take advantage of you and steal your money. There are several scams going on around the Wiregrass area you need to know about.

Dothan area chamber of commerce has been getting calls from local businesses who've been contacted by scammers.

The chamber says they're fake companies selling fake ads for an area map.

“We were surprised because this is the second time this has happened in the last month,” said Melia McKean of Dothan Chamber of Commerce

The chamber reminds businesses they'll contact you by official letterhead if they're affiliated with such a project.

If you don't get a letter, the organization isn't legitimate.

Dothan police have been getting reports of scammers on the computer this Christmas.

EBay users who've lost one bid are getting a fake second chance to bid on the item.

Officials warn this is a scam!

Dothan police also warn you not to give out your personal information over the phone or the Internet.

If you are a victim of online or telephone fraud call the Dothan Police Department at 615-3000.
