Landmark Park Funding Changes

Landmark Park officials are requesting a change in the way they spend city funds.

City commissioners agreed last year to provide the park with $150,000 over a three year period.

The first $50,000 went into the park's operating fund.

However, park officials want to spend the next $100,000 to help build an activity barn.

Park Director William Holman says the new facility will help the park generate revenue and Mayor Pat Thomas says he's all for that.

"I've got to tell you this face to face publicly, it’s my hope that these two $50,000 dollar appropriations to build a revenue generating facility, that your need for revenue from us will be lessened. [I] don't know that we'll get there, but I need to tell you that and you need to understand that," said Mayor Thomas.

City officials will vote on the proposed change at next week's meeting.
