Alabama Power Company plans to increase rates on January first.
Rates are going up 5.29 percent.
It’s expected to cost an extra $5.19 monthly for the average residential customer using about 1,000 Kilowatt Hours.
A power company spokesman says the proposed increases will be considered at a public service commission meeting December 12th.
Last year, the PSC approved 3-rate increases for the utility, including an environmental surcharge.
