This week, the Covington County Commission gave its blessing to a $3 million dollar proposed project at Florala State Park.
It will include plans for a 600 seat amphitheater, a new picnic area and pavilions at both ends of the 500 acre lake.
Environmentalists rate Lake Jackson as one of the cleanest fresh water bodies in the southeast.
The city of Florala is in the process of garnering 1000 signatures to show its support.
At this time, the state has not made a decision on how much to allocate.
The request is before Alabama’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
