Proposed cuts to one senior citizen center has Dothan's elderly upset and they're speaking out about it.
About two dozen seniors packed the Dothan City Commission Chambers urging city leaders not to cut $18,000 for the Dorothy Quick Senior Services Center.
Last week, City Manager Dennis Rubin presented a two year budget recommending cuts be made to non-government agencies at a rate of ten percent each year over a decade.
This would eventually eliminate city funding for the center.
Currently, the city's portion of funding to the Dorothy Quick Center is about one-third of the $60,000 operating budget.
Seniors say the city should realize how important these services are for the elderly.
Mayor Chester Sowell says the city will meet with the center's seniors next month to discuss possible alternatives.
