Elba Budget Dispute

The Elba City Council recently approved a $2,700,000 operating budget but not without some dispute.

Two board members were unhappy with a $44,000 increase for the police department. They criticized Chief Ronnie Whitworth for buying a new squad car.

But the chief says the vehicle is badly needed. He says several of his patrol cars have more than 200,000 miles.

Although the council unanimously approved the budget, they will soon hold a workshop to discuss transferring money within the different departments.
