Whiddon Pleads Guilty

court, trial, jury

A Henry County woman charged in one of the largest embezzlement schemes in Wiregrass history pled guilty Monday.

Forty-three-year-old Susan Whiddon could be sentenced to more than 1,500 years in prison.

She was arrested in January of last year after an audit at the Abbeville engineering firm where she worked.

Investigators say Whiddon may have taken more than $1 million.

She entered guilty pleas on 166 counts of forgery and could receive up to ten years in prison on each count.

District Attorney Doug Valeska says he'll seek maximum punishment.

She remains jailed under more $1 million bond.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 17.
