Federal officials are saying that the United States will have another record-breaking season of West Nile virus this year.
The number of human cases is less than 20 shy of last year's total, and at least a few more weeks remain in the virus season.
The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention reported a little more than 4,000 human cases.
Health officials have said that late August through September is peak season for West Nile.
Alabama health officials say the number of West Nile Virus cases this year stands at 14.
Two people, a Mobile County man and a Montgomery County man, both in their 80s, have died from the virus.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is testing the effectiveness of a new treatment for West Nile virus.
Scientists are asking people who are hospitalized with the disease to participate in the study.
