A jury has recommended death for a Houston County man convicted in a six-year-old Wiregrass murder.

Michael Jerome Lewis was convicted of the April 1997 beating and shooting death of 38-year-old Timothy Kaye of Ashford.

Kaye's body was found floating in a Florida river several days after he disappeared.

Co-defendant Tony Free was also convicted, but he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for his part in the crime.

Free testified Thursday and said Lewis was the triggerman.

The victims mother said she was pleased with the outcome.

Kaye said this has been a terrible and agonizing five years and she's glad it's finally over.
