Abbeville Rebuilds

The City of Abbeville has received good news for its high school damaged by a tornado last Fall.

A House Committee has approved a bill authorizing the state to issue $16 million in bonds to rebuild schools damaged by fires or tornados, which includes the high school in Abbeville.

The money would pay for rebuilding costs not covered by insurance.

Last November, a tornado hit Abbeville, damaging homes and destroying several parts of the school, including the band room and gymnasium.

Currently, many classes are being held in temporary trailers.

Both parents and students say they are glad to hear financial help is on the way.

Other schools receiving a portion of the bond money include Carbon Hill Elementary, Highland Elementary School and high schools in Gadsden.
