FCAT Controversy

A retired Bay County educator who heads up a statewide effort to reform the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test spoke to a group of concerned citizens in Marianna.

Gloria Pipkin gave a portion of an FCAT Test to a group of parents and concerned citizens.

The FCAT is first administered to third graders in Florida. It tests their abilities in Math, English, Writing and Science.

The results are critical not only to the children, but their school's performance as well.

Pipkin says that forces schools to place their focus in the wrong direction.

Pipkin says her organization, Florida Coalition for Assessment Reform, is increasing public awareness of alternatives to high stakes testing.
