It would have only cost them a dollar, but Sacred Heart Health System of Pensacola has decided "not" to buy the Northwest Florida Community Hospital even after a judge dismissed a lawsuit by citizens challenging the deal.
Sacred Heart had proposed buying the hospital in the Florida Panhandle if commissioners would agree to also pay $3.2 million in renovations.
The president of Sacred Heart says months of evaluation showed the renovation costs would be closer to $10 million.
A group of citizens had sued to block the proposed sale on grounds it would be a mis-use of taxpayer money and assets.
