16th Street Baptist Church

Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Anniv

Monday is the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the 16th Street Church in Birmingham that killed four young girls.

Members of the 16th Street Baptist Church say they will never forget the four young lives lost in that bombing, but many emphasize that this is an active church struggling not to be defined by that heinous crime.

The congregation says they know why the world recognizes their church, but they say their mission has not changed, to come together as a place of worship.

The 16th Street Baptist Church will hold a special service at 7 p.m. Monday night to commemorate the anniversary.
