Dozens of soldiers and civilians paid tribute to veterans Thursday at Fort Rucker.
Post officials hosted a ceremony at Veterans Park Thursday morning honoring the commitment and sacrifices made by prisoners of war and those who are missing in action.
The Post Color Guard and the 98th Silver Wings Band participated in the ceremony.
Newly reelected Congressman Terry Everett laid a wreath in honor of the fallen soldiers.
Colonel Scott Larese was the guest speaker. "Sometimes people forget how dedicated they are to our freedom. To recognize Specialist Herndon for his sacrifice, he was injured twice, returned to [his] unit, and ultimately paid the ultimate sacrifice. He's an American hero," he said.
There are other Veteran's Day ceremonies across the Wiregrass this weekend.
