DOTHAN, AL---Leslie Turner sits on her porch while cars rumble as they drive by her home on South Saint Andrews Street.
Turner says there's only one way to describe the ride.
"It's a little rough."
And that's why Dothan city commissioners took steps Tuesday to put an end to it.
Commissioners agreed to proceed with APAC Mid South INC for the 2013 street resurfacing project.
"And one of the biggest projects is here on South St Andrews Street where residents say the work is much needed."
"I think it would be better personally I don't like feeling bumps in the road," said Turner.
Officials say the road is about 80 to 90 years old.
"The construction of that road was concrete to start with there's concrete slabs underneath the asphalt and what people feel is the joints in between those concrete slabs," said Public Works Director Jerry Corbin.
Initial repairs started at the beginning of this year when crews replaced old water lines.
"Next we will do some sanitary sewer rehab, said Corbin, and following that there will be somewhat of a million dollars spent to grind up what you see there now, fix the joints that everybody has a problem with and put a resurfacing on South St. Andrews."
Also on the list in downtown Dothan is Foster Street from Troy to Powell Street.
Officials say the work will probably begin within the next few weeks.
