It was a close race, but after more than 30 years, Dale County will soon have a new coroner.
Republican Woodrow "Woody" Hilbolt will take over the position of coroner for Dale County.
He beat Incumbent Democrat Earl Bankston by two percent.
Hilbolt brought in 6,270 votes versus Bankston's 6,050 votes.
Hilbolt says he looks forward to the new position.
“I campaigned real hard and I’ll work hard as the coroner. I'll be only a phone call away if anyone needs me and I’ll respond in a prompt, courteous and professional manner,” said Hilbolt.
He will take office January 15th.
