Chief Larry Williams has switched his badges at the administrative office and is now getting congratulation hugs from some Dothan firefighters.
He was named the new chief after a panel took applications and studied the possibilities.
Williams has been a firefighter since 1988 and was promoted from fire battalion chief after former Chief Sam Crawford retired in September.
“I was extremely excited. Both my family and I have been hoping that this would happen for a while now. I've had a lot of support from the community all of these things have added to my excitement,” said Chief Williams.
Williams will be responsible of 174 Dothan firefighters.
He says he'll look into someone replacing his old position in January of next year.
