$54,000 in grant money was given to Houston county schools Tuesday.
And more than half of it went to Rehobeth schools.
Senator Harri Anne Smith handed out the grant money at Rehobeth schools.
School officials will divide it between the sixth grade class and the school's reading initiative.
Houston county high school and Wicksburg schools also received some of the money.
It's part of an annual award made available by the state.
Senator Smith says, "This actually is community service grant money from the state that each legislator is allocated a certain amount annually that they can bring home and have a little discretion over to give out in their district.”
She is currently accepting applications for next year's awards.
Anyone interested in applying can call her office for more information.
