Houston County residents who want to fight the opening of a methadone treatment clinic in the area will be in court July 31.

The State Health Planning and Development Agency approved the clinic for treating drug addicts last December. Dr. Henry Born of Anniston plans to operate the facility near Wicksburg.

But some people are against the idea, so Houston County Commissioners convinced state officials to reconsider.

The clinic was originally planned for Dothan, but city officials enforced strict zoning laws to keep it out.

Mayor Chester Sowell is on the list of those signed up to speak against the approval of the treatment center.

The hearing will be held in Montgomery.
