A consulting firm out of Tampa now says an I-10 Connector route through downtown Dothan "is" possible and it won't harm historical landmarks.
That's after the Alabama Department of Transportation employees said they wouldn't even consider the plan because of the potential negative impact on the city's neighborhoods and environment.
So the DOT has been focusing on eastern and western routes. Those would benefit cities like Ozark and Geneva.
But, in a study released Tuesday night, workers with URS Corporation found that a downtown Dothan route would actually have minimal environmental, physical and social impacts.
The number of homes and buildings that would have to be destroyed or moved has also decreased.
