Repair Taxes

Alabamians will head to the polls in one week for the statewide referendum on Governor Bob Riley's tax and accountability plan.

If the tax package passes, Alabamians will be taxed four-percent on labor costs for service repairs.

Supporters say the tax is small.

But, opponents say it will directly impact low-income residents, who they say often drive older cars that need more frequent repairs.

The tax would not be added to work done on other types of property such as central air and heating systems.
