Sybers Investigation

A Bay County Grand Jury is investigating the way a former doctor's murder case was handled.

Williams Sybers was convicted two years ago in the 1991 killing of his wife Kay.

Prosecutors say he had her body embalmed immediately after her death to hide evidence she had been poisoned.

But, an appeals court overturned the verdict in February, sending the case back to circuit court.

Sybers was released with time served for manslaughter.

The request for the investigation comes after a special prosecutor admitted last month that the state unknowingly used botched laboratory results when he prosecuted Sybers in the murder trial.

Now, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed State Attorney Willie Meggs from Tallahassee to investigate the prosecution of Sybers murder case.
