A Northwest Florida teenager is facing murder charges. He’s accused of killing his own father.
Veteran officers describe it as one of the most gruesome scenes they've ever investigated.
Just after 8 p.m. Sunday night, authorities arrived at a mobile home just outside Defuniak Springs. They found 57-year-old James Lewis Mingledorff dead in the front yard. It’s believed he had been shot several times in the face with a .22-caliber rifle.
The victim's son, 17-year-old Ryan Mingledorff, is charged with murder.
Walton County sheriff's officials believe the older Mingledorff was shot in the living room of the family's home. The boy then reportedly dragged his father's body into the front yard. That’s where he allegedly tied the man's neck to the bumper of a pick-up truck.
Authorities haven't given a motive for the killing. The Walton vo-tech student is being held at a juvenile detention center in Crestview. He's expected to make his first court appearance on the murder charge Tuesday.
