First lady Laura Bush says she was "anxious" about her husband's secret trip to Baghdad last week -- but also "really proud" of him.

She says daughters Jenna and Barbara were especially "nervous".

Mrs. Bush spoke to reporters as she accepted the White House Christmas tree, a gift of the nation's tree-growers.

She says she was sorry she didn't get to go with the president -- and still hopes to visit Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bush served Thanksgiving dinner to U-S troops at Baghdad airport and met with Iraqi officials during a two-and-a-half-hour stay.

Mrs. Bush says her husband called from Air Force One not long after takeoff from Baghdad and told her -- in her words -- "how sweet it was."
