Riley Tax Support

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley has lost a big vote in his own political party.

During a meeting this weekend at Orange Beach, the State Republican Executive Meeting voted 122 to 100 to encourage Alabama citizens to vote against Riley's tax and accountability plan on September 9th.

Riley said he expected to lose the party vote, but he was surprised at how close the vote was.

He said he didn't know he had that much support within his party.

Riley has said the toughest part of this campaign has been getting the facts in front of the people.

Last week, the Executive Board of the State Democratic Party endorsed Riley's plan.

Support has also come from the Business Council of Alabama and several other businesses and religious groups.
