Walker Guilty

James Earl Walker.Murder Suspect

A suspect in the home-invasion robbery and murder of an elderly Houston County woman was found guilty Thursday.

Friday, the jury will recommend either the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

James Earl Walker was charged with capital murder in the January 2000 shooting death of 87-year-old Bessie Lee Thweatt.

Walker claimed he never entered the home, but stayed outside to keep watch while co-defendant Rex Allen Beckworth smashed a window and climbed inside the house.

Beckworth has already been convicted and sentenced to die.

Jurors deliberated Walker's case about two and a half hours before reaching the guilty verdict.
