Former HealthSouth chairman Richard Scrushy has added two attorneys to the legal team defending him against fraud charges.
The new attorneys are Abbe David Lowell of Washington, DC, and former assistant U.S. Attorney Arthur Leach.
Scrushy also retained attorneys Donald Watkins and Thomas Sjoblom, who successfully argued earlier this year that Scrushy should have access to his money and property while the government investigated his possible ties to a $2.7 billion accounting scam at HealthSouth.
Scrushy also retained Lewis Gillis and Raymond Johnson of Birmingham as his local counsel.
The 51-year-old Scrushy has pleaded innocent last week to 85 counts alleging he directed a corporate fraud scheme that allowed him to pocket more than a quarter billion dollars from rigged books at HealthSouth.
