Blackmon Appeal

Patricia Blackmon, Child Beating

A Dothan woman sentenced to die for killing a toddler took her case before an appellate court in Montgomery Tuesday.

Patricia Blackmon was convicted last year in the beating death of two-year-old Dominique Bryant.

Prosecutors contended Blackmon inflicted severe injuries on the child including a broken leg and a footprint in her chest.

Blackmon claimed the toddler fell from a bed, but a broken pool cue was also found near the little girl.

Defense Attorney Clark Parker tried to overturn Blackmon's death sentence by arguing that prosecutors failed to prove the crime was especially cruel.

A ruling from the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals is expected later this fall.
