Last week on News 4 we told you how some local residents feel about possible plans to construct a new subdivision on the former Carver High School site.

We now have more information on the Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity's proposal to build on the property where Dothan's last segregated black high school once stood.

The group has met over the past several months with Carver alumni and city leaders about plans to build a 16-house gated community on the Lake Street property.

The proposed subdivision would include a park and facility housing Carver memorabilia. In addition, each house would contain a brick from the former high school placed in the cornerstone.

Carver alumni would also be allowed to name several streets in honor of the school.

Habitat for Humanity says the project would benefit the entire community.

They will present its proposal to the Dothan City Commission on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
