Construction Company Walks

A Henry County construction company that took more than two years to finish a one year project on the Houston County Courthouse, has abandoned a $21 million job in North Alabama.

State highway department officials say Clark Construction Company of Headland walked off the job last week, leaving a bridge across the Tennessee River in Huntsville unfinished.

The state was already preparing to pull its contract with the company.

Houston County officials pulled their contract with Clark earlier this year after repeated delays in finishing the new courthouse project.

Deputy Transportation Director Don Vaughn says Clark Construction left the bridge job for financial reasons.

He says the company has also left five other state projects unfinished.
