COA Program at Wallace Community College

A special request by area opthamologists has encouraged the development of a new program at Wallace Community College.
The school is partnering with Eye Center South in Dothan for a Certified Opthalmic Assistant program.
With baby boomers turning 60 this year, there is a growing need for qualified eye care professionals.
So Wallace Community College is now offering a 12-week, 130-day program at the center for economic and workforce development.
Eye Center South’s Dr. Marnix Heersink says, "The program came about because we had a number of eye care practitioners in the area that came to us and said, 'Gee...we're finding there's a terrific shortage of well-trained people in the area.' So we thought this would be a great way to do this cooperatively with Wallace College
The program will include hands-on clinical training.
