Travelocity reports that hotel occupancy rates are running 12 percent higher for Thanksgiving and 20 percent higher for Christmas compared with the same time a year ago.
And, while air fares have started to come down slightly, consumers are advised to stay alert for drops in fares to their holiday destinations.
The travel web site says that with continued high demand for hotels and airline tickets, the best way to save is to buy air fares package.
For example, consumers can find savings up to $600 for Thanksgiving and Christmas trips to Hawaii, versus booking the hotel and flight separately.
