Weather Sirens

Tower crews have been busy Monday installing weather sirens for several communities in rural Geneva County.

Bellwood along the Coffee and Dale County line has received one. The Lionshare of the funds are from a Department of Homeland Security grant. Emergency management officials say the rotating sirens can usually cover a two mile square area.

County Commissioner Ray Minshew believes it will save lives in the event of a tornado, or some other emergency.

Besides Bellwood, sirens have also been installed over recent days in Chancellor, and several locations in western Geneva County.
