The decision to move Dothan city worker's retirement to a state system is on hold.
The commission heard reasons Tuesday for transferring the city managed pension system over to the Employee's Retirement System of Alabama.
Under the current plan, city workers can retire with 20-years of service and be over the age of 55.
But, under the state system, employees have no mandatory age requirement and instead have to work 25-years to receive benefits.
City Manager Dennis Rubin says joining the state plan will improve employee morale and save taxpayers millions of dollars in the long run.
Commissioners say if something is not done soon, employees will have reduced benefits due to shrinking retirement funds.
The commission will vote on the change in two weeks.
