Loaded Gun on Campus

Dothan Police have arrested a high school student for bringing a loaded gun on campus.

The incident happened Monday in the back parking lot of Northview High School. Police say a student in a car was arguing with another student outside the car.

When the two exchanged blows, the teenager in the car allegedly pulled a gun. School Resource Officer Jason Neal was already approaching the vehicle when the suspect spotted him and drove off.

Officer Neal then jumped in his patrol car and pulled the suspect over just off school property. The teen was arrested and a .25 caliber pistol was recovered.

The 17-year-old student's name has not been released because of his age. He's being held until a hearing on Thursday.

Police said more charges are pending and the student also faces expulsion from school.
