Rubin Finalist

Dennis Rubin

It might not be long before you can start calling the Dothan city manager "chief" again. Dennis Rubin is one of four finalists for the Atlanta, Georgia fire chief position.

He is competing against applicants from Jacksonville, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona and the acting fire chief in Atlanta.

Rubin has 31 years of experience including six years as the Dothan fire chief and chief executive in Norfolk, Virginia.

If the Atlanta mayor chooses him for the position, he would oversee 1,000 employees and 40 fire stations.

Rubin says he knows the average life span of a city manager position is short, so he wants to have something lined up before his contract ends in Dothan.

Rubin should know by the end of next week if he got the position.
